Air curtains create a laminar airflow that is projected over the opening of a doorway. This “curtain” of air acts as an invisible barrier that won’t let air flow through it. Conditioned air from the inside of the door that would normally escape when the door is opened is instead diverted back inside when it hits the wall of air. The air seal also keeps the outside air from entering. This can be beneficial for several reasons, including lowering heating and cooling costs, stopping insects from entering, and keeping airborne particles and contaminants out of a particular area.

Customer Solution

A ProLift Storage & Handling specialist speaks about his experience working with a major manufacturer in the liquor industry. “The customer had three large overhead doors. These doors consistently had strong winds whipping into the plant as well as insects and birds. It was a potential violation for the FDA or OSHA that could have resulted in thousands of dollars in fines.”

The solution was three air curtains. The air curtains were measured for proper sizing. Installed on the inside of the warehouse, the air curtains helped to reduce and ultimately eliminate the strong winds and pests from entering.

Air Curtain Applications

Air curtains are ideal for many applications including:

  • Shipping & receiving docks
  • Warehouse & industrial facilities
  • Customer entrances
  • Walk-in coolers
  • Areas needing insect control
