An industrial bug screen is a solution for companies with exposed warehouse doors and loading docks to eliminate bugs from entering their building. The bug screens also assist to meet requirements of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) , Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and American Institute of Baking (AIB).

Bugs screens are often found in applications for general manufacturing, warehousing, food processing, beverage and bottling facilities, packaging facilities, military facilities and airports. They can be installed on loading docks, dumpster areas and warehouse openings.

BENEFITS OF BUG SCREENS

A warehouse bug screen offers several benefits, including:

  • Protection from Pests. In addition to flying insects, a bug screen prevents birds, animals and other pests from coming into the building.
  • Reduction of Airborne Pollutants. The screen allows ventilation to outside air, which helps decrease airborne pollutants inside the building.
  • Comfortable Work Environment. The increase of air flow between the screens and opened warehouse doors and loading docks keeps energy costs low. Letting fresh air and natural light into the building creates a comfortable work environment, which is a contributor to keeping employee productivity high.
  • Physical Barrier. An exposed doorway or loading dock compromises security but the physical barrier made by a bug screen deters unexpected or unannounced visitors from entering. The barrier also discourages internal and external theft and trespassing.

BUG SCREEN MODELS

Bug screens are available in different models to accommodate a company’s unique workspace and traffic level.

  • Sliding Bug Screens: quick installation, little maintenance, ideal for smaller spaces
  • Manual Roll-Up Bug Screens: spring loaded or made with chain hoists to pull screen up and down, works well in low traffic areas
  • Motorized Bug Screens: movement activated with rocker switch or external jackshaft motors, faster speed, works well in high traffic areas

COMMON BUG SCREEN FEATURES

Based on the model, an industrial bug screen comes with standard features and may allow for customizations. These features ensure a company has the best solution for its space, frequency of use and safety.

  • Mounting – For manual and motorized models, the primary choices are in-jamb mounting, face of wall mounting or inside stand-off mounting.
  • Break Away Bars – Designed for safety, break away bars are activated when the screen closes with an object in its path. The bottom of the door “breaks” around the person or object to give protection.
  • Wind Bars – Bug screen wind bars provide stability against wind force and building pressure.
  • Modular Panels – A bug screen is comprised of multiple panels. This design makes it easier to repair damage, letting the company replace panels rather than the entire bug screen.
  • Track System – The track system protects and guides rollers that allow the door to travel up and down.
