During planned maintenance or a forklift service breakdown, forklift parts are often replaced to keep your equipment running efficiently. The most popular forklift replacement parts are not major components but their role is important in protecting major parts and keeping your operators safe.

Forklift Replacement Parts

Listed in descending order, Toyota Material Handling reports these forklift parts as replaced most often. Forklift parts replaced during ProLift’s planned maintenance service are also noted.

(5) Pedal Pad. The rubber pad on the forklift brake is referred to as the pedal pad. Forklift brakes are used heavily during 8-hr shifts, especially when operators are maneuvering in tight, confined spaces, and the pedal pad becomes worn from daily usage. The molded ribbing of the pad can deteriorate more rapidly when the forklift operates in an environment that is corrosive to rubber and as it smooths your operator’s foot can slip off the pedal pad while braking.

Included with PM Service? No; however, the cost to replace a pedal pad is economical, easy to replace and provides safer operation. Many forklift technicians keep this part on their service van for customer requests.

(4) Tune Up Kit. Made up of wearable items, a forklift tune up kit includes spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. One failed component can affect your forklift’s fuel efficiency or its ability to run. While you can purchase them separately, most items become worn at the same time and the tune up kit helps you keep the forklift parts on the same replacement schedule.

Included with PM Service? Yes, and a full tune up service can be scheduled for an additional charge.

(3) Transmission Filter. Over time the forklift transmission filter experiences natural wear of the friction in the clutches. Worn material from the clutch disks dirties the transmission fluid and makes it less effective at keeping a cooler temperature for the transmission. Scheduled filter and fluid changes can help prevent large repairs as your forklift ages. Excessive heat is a primary reason for transmission failure and decreased life span.

Included with PM Service? Yes, and transmission service can be scheduled for an additional charge. The forklift transmission service drains, flushes and replaces the transmission fluid. The transmission filter is replaced and cooler lines that run from the transmission to the radiator are inspected. A transmission service can be completed at your site.

(2) Air Filter. As your forklift operates it picks up dirt and debris from the warehouse floor, which then clogs the forklift air filter and makes it less effective at bringing clean air into the engine. It will also cause the forklift to use more fuel during operation.

Included with PM Service? Yes, replacement is the best option during planned maintenance. While an air filter can be blown out, this method is less effective. The replacement cost is minimal compared to the increased fuel costs.

(1) Oil Filter. Oil is considered the life blood of the forklift engine and regular replacement of this forklift part keeps your engine running at its optimal level. When left in the filter, contaminants transfer to the oil. The oil becomes thick and less is moved through to the engine. With less oil the forklift engine runs less efficiently and in some cases fails prematurely.

Included with PM Service? Yes, the oil filter is replaced every time planned maintenance is performed.
